George Jackson Academy (GJA) is New York City’s only independent middle school for academically talented boys from families of all incomes. The school provides a nurturing and challenging environment designed specifically for boys in grades 4 through 8, focusing on developing their academic, social, and emotional skills.

GJA was founded in 2003 by Brother Brian Carty, FSC, and a group of his former students from Monsignor Kelly School in memory of George Jackson who was a student at Monsignor Kelly and went on to become a Harvard graduate.

The school is dedicated to transforming lives by providing a nurturing environment grounded in the core values of courage, integrity, empathy, and leadership. The students benefit from a rigorous academic curriculum that includes biology, chemistry, physics, humanities, math, Spanish, fencing, Muay Thai, technology, and percussion. The school’s student-teacher ratio of 5:1 ensures personalized attention and support, helping each student reach their highest potential.

Graduates of GJA go on to attend top independent day schools, boarding schools, parochial schools, and public schools. 95% of the GJA alumni go on to graduate from four-year colleges. The school’s alumni network remains connected and supportive, creating a lifelong brotherhood of young men making a difference in their communities and beyond.

GJA is committed to providing financial aid to all its students, with 100% of families receiving assistance. Thus fulfilling their goal that regardless of financial background, every student at GJA has an opportunity to thrive.
